Subject:Proposed Zoning Changes
Dear Council Members,
You have a difficult job in trying to manage business in the city and trying to please the majority. We
thank you for your time and effort on our behalf.
San Luis Obispo is a charming city because of the low rise buildings that have charm and
character. While we understand the need for more housing we feel that the proposed 75 foot building
height is way too much. If we are correct, the county government center is 65 feet at the highest
point. If our memory is accurate a taller building was not allowed in the block of the new Bank of
America Building. It appears the proposal would allow a much higher building in the other half of that
block and this change in policy doesn't seem right.
Downtown parking is a problem as it stands. I know people who avoid downtown as much as they
can due to the lack of parking. Perhaps it would make more sense to have 3 story buildings of mixed
use that would provide parking for the residents.
Also, tourism is very important to the city and if it were to lose the ambiance that low rise buildings
provide, that tourists like, bed taxes and other tax revenues would decrease.
Please do not vote in favor of the proposed 75 foot building height. Thank you.
Sincerely,
John and Marcia Lindvall
