Lack of housing options and housing affordability are approaching a critical mass. We need more housing of all kinds (including tiny homes). I fully support the existing 75-ft building height exception when the criteria are met ( See 17.42.020 Property development standards). If we don't build up, we build out, and that doesn't make any sense. If you want views, don't live downtown. Downtown is where buildings are. I don't understand how this gets lost on folks. The reason we have so much increased traffic on our roads over recent years is because fewer and fewer people can afford to live anywhere near where most of us work: SLO. Meanwhile folks who bought here in the 1970s and 80s fight every project tooth and nail. This has turned into nothing less than class warfare. I am afraid the NIMBYs and folks like RQN and SOD are the vocal MINORITY. The bottom line is we need to allow for height and allow projects to be built when they meet the criteria we already have in place. This is not the time to go backward. I strongly urge you to support increased height in the downtown core an upper Monterey area as well as creative solutions like allowing for tiny homes in residential zones. Respectfully, Simon Lowrie 1
