HomeMy WebLinkAbout9/4/2018 Item 15, Keadle From:Sarah Keadle < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:anholm bikeway Dear city council, I am writing to voice my opinion on the proposed anholm bikeway. I am a (renting) resident of anholm on Mission st between chorro and broad. I tried to bike with my son from out house to his school (bishop's peak) and I quickly realized it was unsafe for him to bike on broad st... particularly from the school towards downtown. I am in strong support of the proposal to remove parking and I agree with the plan to start with diverting rather than completely blocking traffic and reassess. Since people need to get back to the freeway, I fear major unintended consequences on the cross streets between chorro and broad. (people already fly down mission) if traffic is completely blocked. I am still perplexed as to why the bike community is not willing to consider lincoln as a viable option for the other portion. In contrast to chorro it has no stop signs, which are problematic for bikers. Particularly if a goal is to divert traffic from broad onto chorro it does not make sense to me to be routing bikers onto chorro rather than lincoln and even with a bike lane I would still chose the slower pace of lincoln for that portion. I think attractive signs re-routing bikers onto lincoln would be widely appreciated and would add less than 30 seconds in biking time compared to taking chorro. Moreover, it would help the neighborhood community as there is dramatically more parking sports removed for chorro.
