Dear City Council,
Admittedly, I became interested in the goings on at City Hall when I saw the horrible structure at 22
Chorro Street, read about a potential 75 foot tall building in town, hundreds and hundreds of homes on
the drawing board with apparently no infrastructure to support them and another sister building at 790
Foothill!! I think your actions to pursue these things are seriously degrading the quality of life in SLO.
I starting hearing about the Anholm Bikeway within the past year and only recently have begun to
understand what this is about-- I read as much as I could of the posted plan. Kudos to staff for preparing
such a thorough study. I often drive my car on Broad and Chorro and I honestly haven't seen any issues
with cars and bikes. I realize I may not see everything that happens there--has anyone been seriously
hurt in a bike/car crash in this area? That would be a good reason to pursue this. I doubt that whatever
you do decide to do with the 'bikeway' plan --even the protected bike lane proposal on Chorro--will get
many more people onto bikes. I know it won't get me on one.
This whole proposal seems expensive and wasteful of tax dollars--especially when PARKING downtown is
such a major issue. Are you wishing that everyone will ride bikes and then we wont need any additional
parking downtown? If so, I really doubt that is going to happen. And the traffic in LOVR needs real
attention-- even after all of that road redesign of the past few years-- surely you must be aware that the
traffic conditions between Madonna and the Freeway seem much worse than they were.
Anyway back to the Anholm--the traffic already seems pretty calm on Broad and Chorro --it is a challenge
to exceed the 25 MPH posted rate already. Please save our money for things that will matter to more
people. Thanks
James
