Subject:Anholm Bikeway Plan - Option 3
Dear Mayor and Council,
I want to express my support for the Anholm Bikeway plan that includes protected bike lanes.
I support paths like this that would directly impact the safety of cyclists riding for commuting or pleasure. While
previously living in the Edna Valley I was passed extremely closely by distracted drivers on 227 (despite a very bright
taillight on my bike) and ultimately gave up commuting on my bicycle due to safety concerns. So, protected bike lanes
are like this are the only solution that truly protect bicyclists and I feel would help to get more people on their bikes.
While I feel that the scope of this project is quite small in terms of making the city more bike friendly, lots of small steps
like this can lead to big change. We, as a community, need to take steps such as these to help reduce carbon production
while simultaneously improving health of our citizens. Building a more active society has benefits much more far
reaching than just the removal of cars from the roadways.
