Subject:Anholm bikeway
Dear Councilmembers,
I am writing as a resident and homeowner to support the third option presented on the bike pathway, which includes
protected bike lanes on Chorro between Mission and Lincoln. All studies show that the reason most people do not ride
bikes in urban settings for daily transportation is fear of cars ( justifiable fear it may be said ). Only protected or separate
bikeways provide the safety and peace of mind for the average rider. It is also well established that cities and countries
that provide protected bikeways see increases in bike use. Two sterling examples are the City of Davis California and
Portland Oregon.
Increased use of bicycles and decreased use of cars in the city will accomplish so much that will benefit the city and its
citizens. Cars used for transportation are the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in our city first and
foremost. If SLO and its political leaders are truly interested in mitigating climate change then this decision to support
bicycle use is a no- brainer.
Respectfully
Larry Brooks
