I have been a resident in the Anholm neighborhood my entire life. At age 22 I was lucky enough to start my nursing career at Sierra Vista, and at age 25 was even luckier to buy my first home on the very same street I was born and raised on. I could go on and on but to get to the point I love my hometown, and I love my neighborhood. It is because if that I find myself concerned about some of the proposed changes. We are already facing 3 major developments (22 Chorro, 71 Palomar, and soon 790 Foothill) which will undoubtedly increase congestion and traffic around those areas once these projects are completed and fully populated. Taking away one of our main streets, the one that happens to connect a main thoroughfare like Foothill with the Broad street 101 on/off ramp, will only make matters worse. Forcing traffic onto ancillary streets would make blocks that are already safe to walk and bike on much more dangerous for everyone that lives there including small children. Keep in mind that we are a diverse neighborhood from seniors, to students, to young families but we are also diverse in our abilities. While most of us agree that riding bikes (something most of us in this neighborhood already do) is personally and environmentally healthy, it is unfortunately not something all of us are able to. If we want to make this neighborhood safe, accessible, and progressive then we need to so in a way that works for everyone that lives here. I believe this can be started with reinforcing traffic laws and improving sidewalks throughout the neighborhood as well as designating bike lanes on Chorro (already wide) or Lincoln (already less trafficked). I ask that you consider this and the many other letters from residents of the Anholm neighborhood. I find it extremely troubling that many of these proposed changes are being pushed by people who will not have to live with these decisions on a daily basis. Thank you, Megan Anthony Anholm District Hill Street 1
