Subject:Item #15 Anholm Bikeway
Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members,
We are the resident homeowners of 633 Luneta Drive in the Anholm neighborhood and we are writing to express our opposition for the Anholm
Bikeway plan that includes protected bike lanes on Broad street. The current proposal is bad for our neighborhood for many reasons and the
following are just a few that immediately come to mind:
1 Parking is already limited on Broad Street and the negative impact of reducing street parking on Broad Street residents is significant. The impact on
elderly or disabled residents may in some cases be severe as they may not have a viable alternative.
2 Parking on adjacent streets will also be impacted.
3 Traffic on Chorro will be negatively impacted. We need a careful traffic study conducted after the recent housing projects have been completed
(e.g., 22 Chorro, 71 Palomar, 790 Foothill etc.) to properly account for the increase in density. Ultimately, we need a traffic plan that diverts traffic
to Santa Rosa and not Chorro.
4 Traffic on quiet fragile adjacent streets will also be negatively affected.
It is clear to us that there is no compelling need to act without the appropriate data to support this proposal as there has been no history of
accidents in the last 5 years to justify a hurried emergency response. We hope that you will listen to the community and uphold the Planning
Commission’s incremental proposal for a trial of traffic calming measures, take some time to thoroughly examine all alternatives, and make a
concerted effort to bring the various parties together and work-out a compromise that makes a good faith effort to address the major concerns of
each party.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
Peter and Diane Crough
