These would be similar to slow vehicle turnouts on single lane highways. Some parking would be lost, but if the passing zones are located at intersections, only corner houses would be impacted. Corner homes would still have their side street parking. Attached are 1) a picture showing the markings for a bike turnout on a single lane road in California. 2) an image showing the location where this could be implemented on Chorro. I have not vetted this with residents of Anholm, City Staff, or my Club, but I think it is worth consideration by all if the Council defers action on the middle section of the Anholm Bikeway. Passing lane concept: Bikes will have a 200' long section of the Bikeway to pull to the right to allow motorists to pass safely. Another set of these can be placed on Broad in the Serrano/Murray area. Corner homes lose one or two parking spots on Chorro or Broad, but still have parking on the side street.
