Subject:Anholm Bike Disaster
To the members of council,
As a resident of the Anholm neighborhood, I feel under siege.
22 Chorro. 71 Palomar. 790 Foothill. A parking district. And a bike boulevard.
I have sat through many ARC, planning commission, and city council meetings on these subjects. I have heard “our hands
are tied”, stated in one way or another more times than I can count.
Well, on the subject of the bike boulevard, your hands are doing all the damage. The destruction of the Anholm
neighborhood is entirely your responsibility. You can’t blame the state for this one.
The planning commission (a body of experts, unlike yourselves) has advised you that changing the classification of
Chorro, Broad, Murray and Lincoln is a terrible idea. The residents of Anholm are literally crying over the death of our
quaint neighborhood. Residents from other parts of town are begging you not to kill Anholm in the same way they saw
their neighborhoods die. Hemalata Dandekar may have recused herself from the planning commission on the bikeway
issue, but it doesn’t change the fact that she’s more qualified than you to speak on the subject. She eloquently pointed
out that you should be trying to create neighborhoods like Anholm in our city, and yet you are seeming to do everything
you can think of to destroy it.
Swallow your pride. Let go of this unicorns and rainbows idea that everyone should ride a bike. Drop the bike boulevard
once and for all.

P.S. This letter started off civil, I swear it did. But you’re attacking my home, and I feel I must attack back.
