Subject:City council meeting September the 4th, item 15 Anholm Bikeway Plan
Dear Mayor & City Council Members:
I want to express my opposition to the Anholm Bikeway Plan that includes protected bike lanes. There
are so many reasons that this plan is unacceptable. Our neighborhood has narrow streets with all
driveways entering & exiting the street to add another element, such as a protected bike track is
dangerous to the drivers, pedestrians and to the cyclists. Yes we need traffic to slow down. Traffic
includes the cyclists as well, as they zip across many driveways with no expectations of cars backing out
of their driveways. Aged & disabled residents will be severely affected with the parking removal. Many
houses' have narrow driveways that make them in usable.
Another condition of the aged. You want parking taken out so our neighborhood, which is now simply
referred to as the "Anholm Corridor" for people passing through, but we the residents are not passing
through. We live here and the many impacts you ask us to endure for the sake of the safety of cyclists,
is commendable; however, there are many variables that have not been studied to understand the
magnitude of our sacrifice. Without that information, we ask the cyclists to use the less busy street of
LINCOLN as a compromise.
Please do not add something to our neighborhood without doing a vote of the Anholm neighborhood. Please do not
reclassify our streets without knowing the impact of the 3 inner city student housing developments will have on our
streets. Do not add more confusion without knowing how simply using the LINCOLN Alternative will add to the safety of
cyclists.
Thank you for your consideration,
Steven Longcor of Broad Street in the Anholm District
