HomeMy WebLinkAbout9/4/2018 Item 15, Carscaden From:Saundra Carscaden < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Wait on Anholm Bikeway Plan/Suggestions for Sharing Lanes and Traffic Calming Mayor and City Council Members, We live on Lincoln St in SLO. The Carscadens have lived here for approx. 61 years. After talking with many of the Anholm neighbors, we are asking you all to wait and do nothing with any Anholm Bikeway Plans until after, we in the neighborhood, experience the traffic, circulation and parking effects of the "finished" new project developments in the Northern part of our town (22 Chorro, 71 Palomar, 790 Foothill). Let the dust settle first, to see the extent of traffic damage before you choose to dive into another life changing project for this neck of the woods!!!!! SUGGESTIONS: Safety Sharing Lanes- There have been a large number of people in the SLO community that feel it would be beneficial to have a Community Service Commercial on KSBY "demonstrating " How drivers can be more thoughtful and safety aware of bikers and vice-versa including the "to" dos and "not" to dos on the road!!! Show the commercials during the peak times while the local morning and evening news are on. Hopefully this VISUAL, REPETITIVE EDUCATION, will help to sink the message into all of our brains, to be safety aware and thoughtful of each other!!!!!!!! ?? Traffic Calming Would it be possible to; > drop the speed limit to 20 mph on the streets we are concerned with? (we do not have any speed limit signs posted on Lincoln Street Yikes...not good!). 1 > post numerous, temporary speed limit signs including the amount of the fine? > daily be consistent and diligent using motorcycle police, police students in training from an academy and multiple volunteers, (whatever that would entail for volunteers to be qualified to use a radar gun), to be stationed at the certain busy streets and use radar guns? > mail the speeding drivers their fine in the mail and .... > The City of SLO receives revenue?? > So.... is it possible to experience slower traffic in the Anholm neighborhood, making it safer for bikes and cars to share lanes at a much lesser cost than the other proposed suggestions?!!! By implementing the above, the people traveling through the Anholm Community daily, will get the message, we mean it ... SLOW DOWN!!! ?? Thank you Mayor and Council members, for taking your time to read our concerns and suggestions. The Carscadens? 2
