Subject: Anholm Bikeway Plan
Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members,
Although you may feel like you are acting in the best interests of all of the residents of San Luis
Obispo, accepting the current City sponsored Anholm Bikeway Plan is a waste of taxpayer money.
The vision for a more bike friendly community should be pragmatic and based in reality. The current
plan is not.
Many of you consider yourselves to be visionaries for a better City. You each have great ideas on
some topics however your collective vision should continue to be realistic and cost effective.
What has been lacking in your analysis is that Chorro and Broad are used by a wide variety of
citizens not just the residents. People commuting from Los Osos and from Morro Bay as well as
Ferrini Heights use both of these streets as alternates to Santa Rosa.
An analysis of the rapid inventions and technology of electrical bikes, electrical scooters and
electrical skateboards has also been left out of the mix. They are all becoming less expensive and
more embraced by a wider cross section of our community.
PLEASE ENACT ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: Uphold the Planning Commission's
recommendation for a trial of traffic calming, pursue a trial closure of 101 on and off ramp at Broad
Street with CalTrans, and/or enact the Anholm Bikeway Plan developed by Doug Wood, Barry Rands
& Keith Gurnee and supported by the Anholm Neighbors United.
It would also be acceptable to do nothing permanent and expensive until the effects of the new
projects in the Northern part of town - 22 Chorro, 71 Palomar, and 790 Foothill are finished and
the impacts of traffic, circulation and parking can be properly evaluated. The developer of these
projects has claimed that residents in these future projects will be biking and walking, not driving their
personal vehicles. Many residents disagree with him.
The mechanical parking lift at 22 Chorro still remains a concern for many while attempting to analyze
future traffic flow, especially since the primary Fire Station is located so close to the intersection of
Chorro and Foothill.
Also, some permanent residents believe that even individuals with good intentions need to use a car
often for health and safety reasons. Once again, let's come up a plan that is based in reality.

Please allow San Luis Obispo's Anholm neighbors and bicyclists to come together and work out a
plan that is acceptable and safe for all.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mila Vujovich-La Barre
