Subject:The Anholm Bikeway Proposal
Greeting City Council,
I have been made aware of the new proposal for the Anholm Bikeway project.
I am a concerned citizen who lives on Chorro Street between Lincoln and Mountain View.
I walk, bike and drive in this neighborhood and I am rather confused of this proposal.
I understand and am on board with having a safe neighborhood for all who cross through it.
This new proposal seems to put me and my Chorro street neighbors in a more dangerous situation, with the
city's conclusion that traffic will increase on our street 55%.
I believe that we can come to a better plan.
For one, I believe that it was planned for better enforcement in our neighborhood for the speed limit. I did see
a rise in police presence a couple of months ago, when this project started, but that presence has slowly
dwindled.
If we could enforce the speed limit in some other ways, cameras perhaps, that would be helpful.
Also, I am a bike commuter myself, and ride across town to the trader joes area.
The stretch between Madonna and Margarita on S. HIguera Street, as well as Tank Farm Road from S. Higuera
to Broad are roads that I would like to see some action being taken for Bicyclists. Many of my friends have
stopped commuting because of how dangerous these stretches are without adequate safety lanes for Bikes. I
have never felt the kind of danger in the Anholm neighborhood like the danger i feel on those roads.
Please listen to those who live on these streets where it is determined that traffic will increase, we are
concerned for our safety and the safety of others crossing through.
Sincerely,
Michelle Aragon
