Subject:Anholm Bike Boulevard
Dear Council,
I have ridden the Broad Bike Boulevard up to ten times week for 6 years. IT IS THE SAFEST PIECE OF BIKE
INFRASTRUCTURE IN TOWN, (other than the RR Trail, which I don't use because of the extra time it takes to use the
overpass and to connect back to Broad St. where the destinations are.)
There is very strong opposition from the neighbors, and it is well-founded in the neighborhood's long-term (easement) use
of the street as their de facto garages.
I urge you to defer action on this for at least two years. It is something we can always do later after 22 Chorro and 790
are built, if built, and after other changes in traffic are observed. I once encourage that the County put off the building of
the Carrizo solar farms because they were expensive and the price of solar was plunging. If we had waited we would be
paying about 3/kWh instead of 12c/kWh. Similarly, there is no urgency. The current BS path has had no injuries or
fatalities in 5 years.
Stop the "warfare" against our towns neighborhoods. They are the life force of our city and need to be respected.
Thank you.
Bob Shanbrom
