Subject:Item 15 Anholm Bikeway
Dear Mayor and City Council:
I appreciate the need to encourage biking citywide, but it should not come at the sacrifice of an existing
neighborhood. I lived in the Anholm neighborhood for 17 years, and my husband and I are raising our
children here. We enjoy walking to the nearby shops, my sons get to experience independence by walking
to the store for a quart of milk or go get donuts. Traffic on Chorro has increased significantly in the last 2
years, and we are expecting more traffic with the new developments in the works. The increased traffic in
the area is making walking too dangerous, with too many cars on Chorro and Broad. Now, it looks like
you may funnel all of the traffic to Chorro. Any project that increases traffic on Chorro is unacceptable
and will ruin the neighborhood.
You are trying to ram a square peg through a round hole. There already is a no stress alternative –
Lincoln. When I ride downtown that’s how I go. Yes, it’s a little longer but its much more
pleasant. Focus on traffic calming and getting commuters out of the neighborhood. Don’t ignore the fact
that this is a neighborhood, please don’t ruin it.
Best,
Kerry Brown
