O. Box 942849 Sacramento, CA 94249-0041 Re: AB 1648. CA Disclose Act NOTICE OF SUPPORT Dear Assembly Member Brownley, As Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo, I wish to inform you that the City Council, at their regular meeting of May 8, 2012 unanimously voted to support your legislation, Assembly Bill 1648. The bill would provide necessary reforms to California's campaign finance disclosure laws and increase transparency in our elections. AB 1648 would identify the top contributors of ballot measure campaigns in television ads, radio ads, print and mass mailing ads, and websites; and would require other contributors to be listed on the Secretary of State's website. The City is supportive of these disclosure provisions because during each election cycle special interests inundate voters with messages from political action committees and ballot measure committees. These committees and other committees employ deceiving names and monikers that mislead voters. Voters deserve to have factual information about who is funding political campaigns; this information is critical to making informed decisions. For the above stated reasons the City of San Luis Obispo supports AB 1648.
