Dear Chair Root and fellow Commissioners,
I’m not nearly as eloquent as Allan Cooper, secretary of Save our Downtown, so will second all the points he made in his
letter to you. I implore you to help us protect our beloved SLO, by doing what you can to deny the 1144 Chorro Street
project, as presented.
A 75’ tall building anywhere in our city, but especially in our downtown, will be the beginning of the end for what makes
our community so special. If one project of that scope is allowed, how will we ever be able to stop the upward growth?
The historic Wineman hotel is such a lovely feature of that block, and would be absolutely dwarfed by a 75’ tall
neighbor.
I was recently in Tucson, where I spent Thanksgiving. They are on a growth spree, upward and onward, and it is not a
pretty sight. The tall buildings create concrete canyons...the noise echoes, the heat rises, the sky disappears...it’s very
oppressive. And it’s ugly.
Again, thank you for your support in protecting our historical and unique downtown San Luis Obispo.
Please deny this developer a green light to forever change our way of life. Bigger is not better.
Our quality of life is in your hands.
Thank you,
Debbie Anthony
