I am taking the time to write as I’m deeply concerned about the character and accesbility of our downtown
area. Currently, the changes happening in the downtown area mainly benefit tourists and retailers in the downtown
area. It does not serve the residents of the City of San Luis Obispo greater area. Those of us who live outside the core
find the parking is so limited and usually unavailable that it discourages us from venturing downtown.
Your committee is being asked to consider the following project on Dec 3: 1144 Chorro Street. Case #: ARCH
1903-2018, C-D-H Zone
The proposed 75 foot high building at this location would only add to the concerns of citizens who live outside the core
and who feel the loss of charm and accessibility of our own downtown. A 75 foot building is too high for that area and
would be an unsightly addition to our downtown. Although I hope we never allow a 75 foot building in the downtown
area or along Monterey St, this particular one would limit visibility in the area and add too much density and, most
likely, with inadequate parking.
I ask that your committee rejects the massiveness of this this project and request the developer to submit plans for a 3
story building on the site with adequate parking to ensure there is accessibility for those of us who would like to enjoy
the downtown and so we can contribute to the prosperity of the area.
The City has recently acknowledged the parking crisis downtown. Please do not allow this project to add to this already
difficult situation that discourages residents from using the downtown core.
Please preserve our small town character. We live here because we don’t want to be in big cities or live by overly dense
buildings and developments. Please vote no on this project.
Sincerely,
Shirley Peterson
