Architectural Review
Commission-Chorro building
Commission Members,
Once again you have a very important decision in front of you. Every decision you make changes how new and modified
buildings add to our city as it grows and changes. No decision is greater than how you determine growth and preservation
in downtown San Luis Obispo. The project on Chorro and Marsh is challenging the very history and ambience that I hope your
Commission can preserve in downtown SLO. I believe all of you have walked and driven through the downtown of SLO and
noticed how when you look up you cannot see the old landscape that made and continues to make,
although significantly reduced, SLO a beautiful little city. Every decision you make should take into consideration not only the
fine points of the architectural style but how it contributes to the historical threads that are woven through our city. Buildings
are forever and I hope that the new buildings you allow to be developed will complement and preserve our city Please look at
the height, setback (how does it feel to the pedestrian, maybe a court yard where you can enter part of the building for shops
and restaurants), parking and density Please take into consideration recommendations by the Cultural Heritage
Committee. Thank you for your service to the City of SLO.
