The staff recommendation to deny the appeal is not a surprise to many residents. I will speak for myself. I do not think that anything I say or present will make a difference to you the City Council Members. I, along with many, have made intelligent, non-emotional appeals to you that seem to be entertained with a previous bias that I am unable to assess. It seems that the staff really has all the power. Maybe it is political…I do not know, I am not a politician. It is my understanding that the City Council, as elected officials, has the duty to represent the public. I am not your enemy. In fact, I am a community member. My professional work is based in community. I am, frankly, appalled that you would consider 790 Foothill without careful analysis. 22 Chorro has proven to be a failure as evidenced by the latest $500 incentives offered to potential student renters. Please consider reviewing the Facebook page for The Academy for latest details. Take a tour. Ask about the affordable housing. Occupants from 22 Chorro park in my neighborhood because the trucks they drive are too large for the parking lift design. The Palomar project occupancy is coming soon and the success and impact of that remains to be seen. The impact of the proposed 790 Foothill project can easily be extrapolated by walking the neighborhood. You have heard all this before. Bottom line: I am not going to stop asking for you, each of you, to consider the residents of San Luis Obispo and all non- residents who use Foothill as a commuter corridor to work in San Luis Obispo. Please, support the appeal and be courageous enough to ask more questions and think carefully about our city, San Luis Obispo. I am available to meet for further discussion as you wish.
