First, I’m wondering if any of you have NOT made up your mind already about 790 Foothill. I would like to come to the meeting but am soooo tired of sitting there, listening to the developers bullshit, sharing my thoughts and feelings, only to hear the staff tell you what to do. So if you have already decided, I’ll just stay home. Please let me know. But, I will share my thoughts here, so at least to have it on record. I strongly encourage you to uphold the appeal on the proposed project at 790 Foothill. Send this developer packing. He has done more than enough “for” our city. It’s too big, too ugly, blocks treasured views, adds to the traffic and danger of that intersection, does nothing to alleviate the housing situation for our young workforce, etc. You know all this! His 22 Chorro is not at full capacity, 71 Palomar has been a nightmare for the neighbors, and isn’t even done yet. You allowed the clear cutting of a beautiful, historic grove of trees for that one. I wish the five of you would get out and be proactive. Find LOCAL developers who maybe get our way of life, and would work with you to provide something we really need here, that fits within the guidelines we have. Let’s make a firm commitment to height limits and stand by them, no matter what, like Santa Barbara did. This reactive way of doing business is not working...the developer comes in with some outlandish proposal, and you, guided by staff, bend over backwards to make it happen. Is the staff paid by the developers our by our taxpayers money?! Please, give this the consideration it deserves. This third project of “luxury student apartments” will do nothing for our young workforce, no matter how many times you say the words “affordable housing”. Be realistic. Be honest.
