My objections to this building include—height of building, density, setback and public view of the surrounding mountains. The building at 22 Chorro should be a good visible example of what we do not want to do again. Community members that are in need of affordable housing frequently are families or a couple that would want more than a very small studio apartment. I is my understanding that the affordable housing units at 22 Chorro are not fully rented at this time. I know we have seniors and disabled adults that are in need of housing in SLO and I believe they would be a good balance to any apartment structure. Why are the units not fully rented? Can the apartments at 22 Chorro or proposed apartments at 790 Foothill accommodate a single parent and child? When we grant developers density bonuses the proposed use needs to be what the community needs. Please ask yourselves why and for whom are allowing this bonus density? At this point it appears the the City of SLO is allowing bonus density to almost all construction. You are asking the citizens to increase traffic, reduce parking and take away the beautiful views in our city that makes us unique. I believe that through thoughtful building we can provide for residents needs and preserve our city’s beauty. Creative development takes time and yes more cost for the developer but the buildings will be forever enjoyed. Please uphold the appeal and take a new look at 790 Foothill. Thank you for your time.
