I grew up in the Foothill area beginning in 1958 and watched our open fields disappear to Valencia and Tropicana. I can say today that at least these housing units blend in to the neighborhood. What is being proposed for 790 Foothill is too much. I keep hearing the high density thing and affordable housing but still am not convinced that they have to come at this cost of such oversized structures. It is my understanding that the room size could be scaled back to still include the number of units without going the extra height and building right to the curb. Wouldn’t it be nice if they even had a little green area that wasn’t on the roof. I cannot say that I’m impressed with 22 Chorro and it’s impact on the neighborhood. It is nice to have the areas that have been vacant for so long like McDonald’s developed but I really would like to see it not go so tall that it overwhelms the neighborhood. I would really like to see the Blackhorse Espresso stay as it is a well appreciated meeting place. It’s hard to see this same contractor continue to push his agenda on our city and know that the impact is not ever going to go away. What he has done is enough. Can’t we take a look at another option with another developer that might be able to find a better fit for our neighborhood. I will say that I don’t want to give up on hoping we can tone down the intense drive that seems to be coming for the high density development where we keep going taller. I’m cringing when I think that might be the outcome for the old Riley’s building in the very center of downtown. I’m not very good at sharing my thoughts but really want you to know that I am not a minority group. There are many of us out here that don’t know how to express our frustration at the direction everything is going and the concern that the traffic will get greater not less, it is already a slow trip around town these days. I mean no ill will but hope you will hear my hopes and dreams for a town I have lived my whole life in and dearly love.
