Subject:City Council Meeting 15Jan: Agenda Item 9- 790 Foothill Structure
Hello,
I am writing to express my opposition to the building proposed at 790 Foothill Blvd. I live at 260 Westmont Ave. and my
family and I consider the Foothill corridor to be a core part of our neighborhood. We oppose the addition to the Foothill
corridor of structures with heights above the current zoning (43 ft vs 35 ft). We oppose increased density and we oppose
destroying the views from our neighborhoods commercial district for the benefit of 'luxury student housing'. Current
zoning (including height and density) is appropriate for our neighborhood which includes not just students, but families,
retirees, seniors and young professionals.
The current building at 22 Chorro has proven that affordable housing is of little concern: "rooms" are reportedly being
offered at $1300 per month per student with four students per room (that's $5200 per month!!!!). This is NOT
affordable housing, this is NOT a positive addition to my neighborhood, and architecturally speaking, it is NOT in-line
with the values of our community in which the views of our beautiful open spaces are highly valued.
I would suggest you review the excellent development of the corner of S. Tassajara Drive and Foothill. A poorly used
commercial building has been transformed into reasonable higher density housing/commercial space that blends well
with the existing neighborhood.
Please consider the long-term impact to my neighborhood in your review and give it a greater weight than the short
term financial gain of developers or the very short term residency of college students desiring 'luxury' housing.
Thank you for listening to the occupants of the spaces you yield so much power in shaping.
Sincerely,
-Holly Maulhardt
