Subject:Luxury apartments at 790 Foothill
To the Mayor of San Luis Obispo and the City Council:
This letter is written to express my opposition to the proposed development at 790 Foothill. I am a SLO native, and it’s
fair to say that never have I seen more rampant development in the City of San Luis Obispo that I have in the most
recent several years. The proposed development is simply too tall and too large for the site on which it is to be built. As
height limits are ignored, the surrounding hills get blocked from view. The character of our special place is being
destroyed. I cannot begin to tell you how sad it is to witness.
I know that the topic of “affordable housing” comes into play on the 790 Foothill project and most others that are in
various stages of approval. I realize that pressure from State of California mandates also plays a role, as does the
reckless growth of enrollment at Cal Poly. However, after reviewing the details of the 790 Foothill project, it is very
difficult to see how a luxury apartment complex will positively impact the affordable housing issue. I see that its only
positive effect will be on the developer and his investors. PLEASE consider the concerns of us SLO residents and the
character of our city before approving the plans for the 790 Foothill project as submitted.
