Subject:1-23-19 Budget Setting
Honorable Mayor and City Council members
I will be placing my dots on Wednesday evening in support of a new police station.
As you are aware, the existing police station is well beyond its useful life. There are no more areas to convert to create
space such as closets to a desk space and calling it an office.
I think you would agree that it is vitally important that our sworn officers and all the support staff have a descent place
to go to work, today they really don't. It is hard enough to hire and retain good employees let alone be in competition
with other communities that have better facilities to hire the best to serve and protect. A good environment and a
healthy place to go to work will boost morale and simply keep our dedicated officers and staff in place and a part of our
community.
I understand this is a costly request, but the studies that have been conducted do indicate that the current location will
work just fine so the land acquisition part of the equation is eliminated and the city basically just needs to deal with the
replacement of infrastructure and the structure to adequately house what we have now and also leave room for future
expansion. A win, win.
