Subject: Orcutt and Laurel Lane proposed development
Hi Kyle,
Just wanting to be sure I am contacting the right person in the City of SLO regarding the proposed development on
Orcutt Road and Laurel Lane. If not, please refer me appropriately.
Especially considering all the new development that has happened in this city recently, and the fact that Laurel Lane was
recently reduced to one lane in each direction, how can the city’s infrastucture handle the size of this development? As
a resident who was born in SLO, I have seen just too much development in the past several years. I understand the
pressure from the State to provide affordable housing, etc., but this is getting out of hand. The city’s reputation for
being a “special place” has been severely tarnished of late.
Seems like the leadership of this community is counting on many working people to walk or bike to work - that’s why
Laurel Lane was reduced to one lane in each direction while expanding bike lanes. But I don’t see any increase in bike
use…rather, there may be a perception that the roads are less safe because there will no doubt be more cars on the
road. I used to cycle regularly…it was a great form of exercise and I felt same doing it. But I haven’t ridden in years…it
just feels too dangerous.
Please consider the drastic impact of this development on an already impacted corner. Also, please let me know what I
can do as a concerned, long-term resident of this city to make my voice heard.
Thank you,
Ted Rich
