Supports a Major City Goal: Housing • This is a needed project • There is high demand for quality rental stock in SLO • The current inventory is limited, low quality, and comes at a high cost ■ The current inventory is geared toward student rental • Few options exist for young professionals and families not ready to buy, but who desire to live in SLO and experience quality living ■ No apartment complexes/apartment homes; simply old houses in need of repair ■ There is a huge gap, but projects like the one presented this evening offer hope for bridging this gap 2. Location, Location, Location ■ Perfect location for this development • Instant walkability factor o Vons o CVS o Sesloc o Soccer fields o Kennedy Fitness o Public Market o Riparian open space o Plus new mixed use businesses on site • Rare opportunity for someone some to rent an apartment outside the downtown core and have this level of walkability and instant community, not to mention that its walkable to work for those employed on the south side of town. Demographic: • It's not just millennials in need of quality rental housing: 0 20s, 30s, 40s o Single, married, young families o There is a need across the spectrum for quality apartment living I hope the commission will consider and support not only this project but embrace future opportunities for rezoning and infill that can help increase the supply and diversity of housing in SLO.
