Subject:1160 Laurel Creek Project
Dear Planning Commission of SLO City,
My wife and I hope that you reject the proposed Laurel Creek Project as it is currently planned. This 4-story, densely
populated structure is a big city project that is completely out-of-scale and out of balance with the current
infrastructure, lifestyle and needs of San Luis Obispo. Our small-town look and feel has already eroded considerably
over the past several years, and this project would completely change the character of our Sinsheimer-Laurel
neighborhood, I cannot imagine the traffic snarl that would ensue on Broad and Laurel, which is a 2 lane street, with
700 additional residents. Already, the Broad City corridor, due to many new projects, has created rush-hour traffic jams
on Broad Street which had not existed before. Sinsheimer park and playground is often filled to capacity. This project
would make matters worse. In terms of the quality of life through the city, we have noticed over the past 4 years ever-
increasing problems with regards to congestion, noise, air quality and traffic in San Luis Obispo. Much of this is due to
city growth and increased traffic. Small-scale projects such as the one on the corner of Laurel and Southwood have
been in keeping with the scale of our neighborhood. We have lived in this neighborhood for 23 years and hope that its
quiet and livable atmosphere may continue as is.
Sincerely
Tom and Sarah Weinschenk,
Santa Clara Street,
San Luis Obispo
