Kyle Bell CDD Associate Planner T 805.781.7524 From: cindrich1@aol.com <cindrich1@aol.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2019 5:27 PM To: Bell, Kyle <KBell@slocity.org> Subject: Atoll Property Dear Kyle: I understand you are the planner for the Atoll Property on Laurel Lane. I will be celebrating a birthday tonight and will not be able to attend the meeting but would like to share some concerns regarding the proposed plan for the Atoll Property on Laurel Lane. There has been much discussion on the Nextdoor site (as well as from others I have spoken with) that live in our neighborhood and surrounding areas about the project that are much in line with my own concerns. I appreciate the opportunity to share them with you. This project proposes a HUGE number of homes/businesses for this area. The infrastructure is not well suited to accommodate such a large increase in population and use. We have yet to even see the impact of all the new housing going in between Orcutt and Tank Farm or where Bang the Drum is currently. With the newly resurfaced traffic flows on Laurel Lane there is already a significant increase in traffic and congestion (agitated- aggressive driving, increased accidents, etc.) Neighbors are not happy with the difficulty they have now navigating out of their driveways or attempting to cross traffic as there is often backed up traffic from Orcutt to Johnson during peak hours or when a train comes. Unfortunately, the bike lanes have not helped with this situation, but rather having 1 lane in each direction for cars instead of 2 has exacerbated the problem. Until we are able to determine the impact of the developments currently under construction to the already stressed traffic flow on Laurel Lane it seems reckless to move forward with any additional projects. Another concern is for the idea of adding even more housing in light of how many projects are currently underway. Residents I have spoken to feel it wise to “let the dust settle” on the projects before moving forward with a project of such large scope. I would agree with this thinking and hope that City Planning will take such an approach when considering this project. Thank you! 1 Gina Cindrich El Cerrito Court, SLO 2
