Subject: hotel approval on today's cultural committee agenda
Unfortunately, I can't make today's hearings, but I would appreciate your passing my thoughts
on to the committee. Thanks Judith Bernstein
Although I live in Arroyo Grande, I am in san luis Obispo at least four days per week for cultural events
(museums, PAC, films at the Palm, etc), shopping, meeting friends for meals, coffee or wine, and just
to enjoy the parks and downtown.
I like so many others, have seen what I would consider the "cultural heritage" of SLO being slowly
eroded by large buildings approved by the Planning Commission and the City Council. These hotels
tower over historical structures and diminish them in both scale and meaning. They block the
sunshine that's so abundant here, hence our many restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating would
receive less light. They do NOT add to the residential housing stock (affordable) we so badly need. If
we truly are short of hotel capacity--- which I doubt--- more hotels should be located on the Monterey
strip where they are already clustered, or over by Embassy suites. They do not belong in the heart of
downtown if San Luis Obispo is to retain its cultural heritage for us and for future generations.
I would appreciate your reading this statement to the committee this evening.

I will also call you to find out if this was received in time. thanks
