Subject:Comments on Bike Network for ATC
Dear Active Transportation Committee,
Thank you for your continued efforts to make SLO safe for bike riders and pedestrians. I’d like to provide the
following comments for your consideration as you review the bike network in the Active Transportation Plan.
Western Area ‐
I fully support your efforts to create a protected bike lane (cycle track) along Los Osos Valley Road
between S. Higuera and the Target shopping area. This area is dangerous for bike riders and a high
traffic area. Please ensure it connects to a bike path to the Madonna Plaza Shopping area through the
new development. Alternatively, continue the protected lane all the way to Madonna Rd. and connect
to a bike path along Madonna. Even better would be to add a bike path along this stretch of LOVR.
Creating safe bike routes here will allow local residents in the surrounding housing areas to use active
transportation to run errands and take children to school. CL Smith students travel from across
Highway 101.
Southern Area ‐
Please consider adding a protected bike lane (or cycle track) on South Higuera from LOVR to Tank Farm
Rd. This area is dangerous for bike riders as it is a high traffic area and drivers do not respect the bike
lane delineation here. A new Public Market will be opening at the corner of S. Higuera and Tank Farm.
It would be great for local residents to be able to bike to the market from surrounding housing and
even from the Laguna Lake area. Alternatively, please consider connecting the existing Bob Jones bike
path through Creekside to Tank Farm Road via a bridge.
I fully support your efforts to create a bike path along Tank Farm Road that connects to paths that run
adjacent to Broad St. It would be great for this path to also connect to the Bob Jones Trail.
I hope you will continue to explore ways to connect the existing Bob Jones bike path from Prado to
downtown between 101 and S. Higuera.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
