TO: Mayor and Council
FROM: Lindsey Stephenson, Recreation Manager, Parks and Recreation
VIA: Derek Johnson, City Manager I)J
SUBJECT: STREAMLINE PROCESS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF FOUR MINOR
PUBLIC ART PROJECTS (Consent Item#8)
Staff is recommending that Council include an additional eligible project to the streamlined
process for Minor Public Art Projects. The purpose of doing this is to help brand and market the
City's sustainability program and to beautify City parking structures to enhance the overall
experience of our customers.
5. Downtown Parking Garage Interior Murals
Staff is proposing the consideration of a mural at a Downtown Parking garage on an
interior first floor with a design that beautifies the electric vehicle charging area and/or
a first-floar elevator area that celebrates sustainability, innovation, culture and the
community. The Promotional Coordinating Committee is proposing to use the
Committee's community placemaking strategic initiative funding to commission the
mural. The mural will meet the design standards for the Public Art Program and
follow the Public Art Jury process and approval.
In addition, and related to Pop Up Events, as described on page 57 of your Agenda packet,
staff anticipates looking for a used outdoor piano to temporary install in a Park this summer
if possible,as one of the many temporary efforts to further activate our parks and community
spaces.
