Subject: Montorosa Hotel Project
Dear Shawna Scott.
I am writing to show my support for the Montorosa Hotel Project proposed by the local architect George Garcia. First let
me introduce myself: I am the former California State Architect and former Dean of the College of Architecture and
Environmental Design. George Garcia was one of my former students and Allan Cooper was a Professor while I was at
Cal Poly. George was an outstanding student in school and one of the best design talents practicing in San Luis Obispo.
Allan Cooper was a professor of architecture teaching history, theory, and criticism but never practiced architecture. We
at Cal Ploy at Cal Poly tried to balance theory with practice so our students would have a well rounded education. My
review of this hotel project indicates that all of the planning criteria have been meet and it would be a good addition to
this city. There are those who dislike either the design or the architect and that have no bearing on the reasoning
behind a successful project. These people would love to project their own ideas without any realization the design
parameters or economic reality.
