If a permit to remove this tree is granted, I intend to replace it with a tree of more suitable size and one recommended by the Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute, such as a Japanese Crape Myrtle. The Podicarpus, though beautiful, has outgrown my small yard and grows so quickly that I can't keep up in managing its size. It is a species too large and too fast growing for the space and continually needs to be trimmed from the utility wires, from over the house and from the neighbor's yard. (See attached photo) The hefty trunk is encroaching on the neighboring property sidewalk and the root system is lifting the sidewalk in front of her home. (See attached photos) The root system of this tree has intruded in the sewer. After years of plumbing work to unsuccessfully clear the roots, last year I spent $14,500 to have that section the sewer replaced out to the main, plus $1,371 for a City permit to do the replacement. In summary, the Podicarpus in my front yard is causing a financial hardship for me and a negative impact on my property, the city sidewalk and the neighboring property. Foothill Blvd in San Luis Obispo. I am a resident at 324 E Foothill Blvd and this tree in in my neighbors front yard. At least 25% of this tree hangs over my property which consists of very large branches. Much debri falls front the tree and, as a result, I am responsible for the clean up_ This tree has grown onto telephone lines and have also noticed the sidewalk has lifted undoubtedly to the roots of the tree. find the size of the tree problematic as well.
