The pot was left unattended for several minutes when the cooking oil caught fire. One of the occupants John Tores dumped water onto the fire causing a violent reaction and spreading fire through out the stove area. The fire sprinkler above the refrigerator just to the left of the stove activated extinguishing the fire. The fire was contained to the kitchen area at the stove and microwave hood. Minor damage to cabinets above as well as smoke damage to paint throughout the kitchen. Once on scene a call out for Truck 1 and the water vacuum was initiated as well as shutting down of services. The fire sprinkler system was shut down, electrical service at the breaker panel to the affected kitchen, gas to the stove, as well as gas to the entire apartment was turned off. Truck 1 completed as much water vac as possible and cleared. Smoke detectors in the residence were in-service and operable. The occupants notified the call service for the management company and restorative measures were being organized. T2 left a list of all items to address. The occupants of the fire unit and the occupants of apartment 1975 B found places to stay for the evening.
