Subject:After School Care
Good Morning City Council,
I am emailing in regards to the child care memo. I have a daughter who is school age this year, she previously attended full day preschool. My husband and I
both have full time careers and therefore need before care and after care. My husband showed up hours early (4 am) on May 10th to sign our daughter up for
the programs at Bishop's Peak Elementary. Unfortunately, he was told that the after school program has a wait list and we would not be getting in. This wait list
he was told was from last years families, which means there wasn't even one spot available to incoming families this year. After school care for our family is a
necessity and something we can't live without. Living in San Luis Obispo is expensive and therefore we need both of our incomes. I am hoping that something
will change and there will be more spots available or more staff hired to accommodate the need for child care. The stress and financial burden this will cause for
years is something that is hard to ignore and let go. I am hoping you can address this concern and the necessity for a solution to come soon.
