Subject:Council Compensation Committee
Dear Members of City Council,
I writing as a nominee to the Council Compensation Committee and would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself to those of you who do not know me.
I grew up in San Luis Obispo, attending Teach and Laguna Middle School, before continuing my education and beginning
my career as a professional dancer on the East Coast and in Europe. 7 years ago my family and I moved back, in part to
give my children the opportunity to grow up in this special place that I hold near and dear to my heart.
I returned to find a San Luis that had grown in size, population, and diversity. I am proud to be a small business owner,
serving approximately 200 families weekly through dance and movement classes. This city is important to me not only
as a citizen and father, but as someone who depends deeply on the quality of life maintained through the conscientious
decision making and vision of the Mayor's office and City Council.
My belief is that serving on Council and the numerous committees which advise it should be driven by passion and
members should be representative of the community they serve. Therefore, participation should not be prohibitive for
those who work, have family commitments, or financial concerns.
Thank you for taking the time to enact the Council Compensation Committee and for considering my nomination.
Best Regards,
Ryan Lawrence, PT
Owner, The SLO Movement Arts Center
