I don't believe we are yet ready to provide enough electricity for ALL new homes in addition to existing homes & businesses, at a reasonable rate. Until a cheaper source of electricity is available, natural gas is still the most cost effective source of energy for many items--and preferred by most for cooking. REQUIRING all-electric new homes will price them out of the range of most new home buyers--already a severe problem in this community. Plus, as more and more people are moving to solar panels for their homes, they will naturally use less gas, as it will become the more costly option for them. FORCING people to build all-electric homes is not what this city should be about. In addition, the cost to businesses and their employees who depend on the natural gas industry will be severe. Contractors will choose not to build here, or to charge more for their services--making the price of new homes even MORE expensive. Businesses that provide gas fireplaces, stoves, and the like will go out of business. We can't afford to lose jobs here--it's already hard enough to make a living. 1 Once again, I urge you to vote NO on this ordinance. Thank you, Betty Ellison Registered Voter 2
