Subject: Support ban on natural gas in new builds
Despite the scare tactic e-mail below sent by a company which sells natural gas fireplaces, natural gas is NOT a clean fuel
as the process of fracking to access natural gas involves the injection of a mixture of sand, water and dangerous
chemicals into an oil or gas well at high pressures to fracture the shale rocks to release the natural gas. However, there
is the potential for leaks to occur and most experts are worried about the fracking liquids potentially seeping into the
water table, as well as causing soil contamination. The process of fracking can actually release chemicals into air that are
known to cause cancer such as benzene and methane. Not to mention the very real possibility of toxic spills.
We need to move to clean energy. Please support the ban on natural gas in new builds.

Family, friends and neighbors, the San Luis City Council on September 3rd is trying to pass an ordinance that would ban
natural gas in all residential & commercial new builds. If this passes it will surely pass on to other cities and counties.
We are concerned with the timing of this as natural gas is a clean, cost effective and plentiful fuel. We also feel the city
council has not provided enough evidence or given us enough time to prepare for this drastic change. The city is focused
on Net Zero and yet the Monterey Community Power company they have signed on with specifically says on their web
page that it does receive electricity from places that are powered by natural gas?
https://www.mbcommunitypower.org/ From and environmental standpoint electricity is great but in order to get to the
NetZero with solar fields and wind farms the negative effects on the environment are huge and the waste associated
with solar are also something to consider.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-yALPEpV4w&feature=youtu.be We have seen Berkley California as the first
place to adopt this ordinance and they have included retrofits and remodels.
https://www.shaledirectories.com/blog/berkeley-goes-bonkers-with-batty-natural-gas-ban/
This will be a huge hit financial for new builds and remodels. The timing is not right. Why are they trying to push this
through in a matter of less than a month from letting the community know about it.
Something smells fishy. Whether you live in SLO or not I would appreciate if you would send an email to the city council
expressing your opposition as most of you do business in San Luis in some way or another. Please pass along to as many
people as you can.
