Gas is an inexpensive and clean fuel. In the 1960s, electric homes/apartments were build because electricty was a cheap and easy energy source. These properties are now 50 years old and those electric bills can be 4 to 8 times the cost of a gas heated home. Yes, there is solar to offset these bills, but what if something changes in that industry ? And what is the life expectancy of solar equipment and the cost to replace equipment?. Solar isn't free and it adds to the cost of new construction, which then adds to the cost of buying or renting the property. 1 I urge all of you to do more research, think about affordability and talk with the building community. You are here to serve the San Luis Obispo community, maybe a survey on what they prefer to cook with or dry their clothes with would be appropriate ? You will find there are some very definite opinions on this subject and gas will most likely win. Instead making a decision to phase out natural gas, perhaps there should be a rebate program for Builders that buy electric appliances for new homes Or homeowners that change from gas to electric appliances ? Sincerely, Bev. Pratt 1398 Alder SLO 2
