California’s energy production is not at a point where it produces clean energy. The energy consumed will be from natural gas plants for a long time to come. Even if SLO only buys clean energy we are not changing the net environmental impact of carbon source energy. We are just shifting the source of energy. There is a limited supply of clean energy. Other cities will be using a higher percentage of carbon produced energy. It’s similar to a person claiming that they have no household waste by emptying there cardboard and plastic bulk containers purchased into reusable plastic containers at the store and putting the waste in the stores recycle. True they may have little or no waste at their house but they have done nothing to solve the problem. They have just diverted it. There may be a time in the future when the majority of the energy used in CA is clean energy until then we are only diverting the usage. Our equivalent energy usage of electric powered appliances will still be essentially powered by gas fired power plants . It’s just power being directed to another city because our city bought up the clean energy. People enjoy gas BBQ’s gas fireplaces and some prefer gas ranges where they can use cast iron cookware. Before imposing lifestyle restrictions on everyone else please clean up the cities carbon footprint. I realize for the moment this is directed at new construction. Sent from my iPhone 1
