A12) with a route along Peach/Nipomo/High/Hutton/Branch/King PROs: Longer route The route is currently already designated a Class III and is commonly used by bicyclists. North end Connects directly with Class II lanes on Chorro which in turn will soon connect with the Anholm Greenway Provides more direct connectivity to Hawthorne school The route more accurately serves the Bicycle Blvd. goal of being a low speed/low MV volume route that is close to a parallel through route with higher speed/volume motor vehicle traffic Eliminates the useless Southbound beginning of the Beach/King route on Marsh Street Should have a positive impact on planning for the High St. Neighborhood Traffic Mgt. program as it provides a nexus with those goals CONs: High Street isn’t as easily crossed on this route compared to the Beach/King route (Historical note: this is the major reason that it wasn’t made the BB on this side of Broad in the existing plan) Zig-zag route on Southern end might be confusing to some unacquainted (with route) riders and create signage costs. - Install a set of visually aggressive sharrows along Nipomo Street in front of the new Palm/Nipomo parking garage. Ideally I’d like a solid green lane in the middle of the traffic lane with sharrows that run from at least 1/2 block back from either side of the garage. This needs to be put in the Plan ASAP as planning is well under way for the garage. The garage will increase the volume of traffic on this preferred Class III bike route. (Do this even if you don’t make it part of a Bike Blvd.) - Create a project for a HAWK signal at King Street to cross South Street. It will serve the Bike Blvd. as well as Hawthorne Elementary School pedestrians. Thanks for the care you give to our community and thanks for considering my comments. Sincerely, Kevin Christian LCI 1
