Dear City Council,
I am writing from Vermont’s capital city of Montpelier where I chair the Montpelier Energy Advisory Committee. Like
San Luis Obispo, Montpelier has set a goal to be net zero (by 2030 for municipal operations and 2050 for the whole
community).
We stand with you in support of a carbon free community and implementing policy to move us all in the right direction.
We are also looking at our options for ordinances that support energy efficiency and the idea of requiring all new
construction to be carbon free or Net Zero.
I am excited to hear what my colleague Mike Horgan has been working on in your city, and hope that you are able to
support the carbon free policy next week. And assuming it passes, we would love to see what you come up with as a
model for potential ordinances here in Montpelier.
