Subject:Clean Energy Choice Program for New Buildings
Dear Mayor Harmon and council members,
As a community member, pediatrician in SLO for 33 years, I’ve sadly seen TOO many young families move out
of our town in recent years. The natural gas mandates, although truly well intentioned, will undoubtedly add to
the already high cost of living here in SLO. So may families struggle here and cannot afford electric vehicles or
an all electric home ( with the high cost of electricity ). The costs to building new homes will be passed on to
the consumer as history always shows.
Please vote NO on this proposal.
Perhaps rather than a mandate, consider incentives to “green build” by reducing the cost of the permitting
processes, or giving tax credits, or other considerations, but please NO mandate because that will place
another layer of burden on a generation that seems to be getting no breaks at all. Even though there is
urgency in addressing the real issue of global climate change and modeling good stewardship though good
public policy, the proposal needs some re-working lest the dreaded unintended consequences come back on
future generations.
Thank you very much,
Rene Bravo, MD
