My husband and I don’t live in San Luis Obispo, but we do own property in the city and we plan to move there eventually. I hope our opinions are of some value, even though we cannot participate in city elections. We strongly supported your decision to join Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP), making affordable carbon-free energy from wind, solar, and hydro sources available to all city residents starting next year. We wish we had the same option available to us living in one of the county’s unincorporated areas. We also support your recent proposal to implement a Clean Energy Program for New Buildings, encouraging developers to build new homes fully powered by electricity. Although the proposal is meeting some resistance, I urge you to stand your ground. The general public is finally recognizing that we have waited far too long to do something about global warming and its negative impacts are already being felt. Your leadership is essential in helping them grasp the urgent need to take decisive action now. The best part is that this action requires no sacrifice on the part of the public. The Clean Energy Choice Program is in their best interest, not only getting SLO closer to its 2035 carbon neutrality goal, but ensuring all new buildings are healthier, safer, more affordable, and less polluting. We’ve lived in an all-electric home for over 30 years. It’s been powered by solar for the last 15 years and we’ve gradually been upgrading our appliances to new, more efficient models. As someone who loves to cook, I never thought I could live without a gas stove but have managed just fine. I’m really looking forward to upgrading to an induction range in the not too distant future. Even Wolf has seen the light and offers induction options now! Thanks for all you do to lead SLO residents and beyond toward a better future. _____________________________________________________________________________ Holly Sletteland & Doug Anderson 4849 See Ranch Lane Templeton, CA 93465 Owners, 2030 Rachel St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 1
