Given the City's carbon neutrality goal, the aggressive steps we'll need to take to achieve it, and the market viability of implementing all electric infrastructure cost effectively, it's hard to ration a sound reason not to do so. There may be some upfront chagrin and frustration, but people will be quick to adapt. The quality of new developments will be wonderful, and with the right incentives many will jump at the opportunity to retrofit old infrastructure. In working with local businesses, I've encountered that many still do not even know about our switch to MBCP, but they are delighted when I brief them on staff's work and the Council's leadership. Additionally, for many upgraded appliances aren't on their radar, and many are hesitant to assume an upfront cost, but when they realize they will have a quick ROI and receive better performance it's consistently a no-brainer decision. I urge you to look at this code from a standpoint of 15-25 years, these new developments will need retrofits, and if it's from Gas to Electric you're only driving up the bill for residents. This decision removes that future pain point and further facilitates the market shift to a truly carbon free energy system for our community and the others that follow. Thanks for your time, energy, and leadership! Kind Regards, -- Cory Jones Program Director P- 805-540-0481 E- coordinator@slogreenbusiness.org slogreenbusiness.org 1
