I am submitting this message to voice my opposition to Item 18 of the Sept 3rd agenda, the clean energy choice policy. These proposed policies and directions to staff are out of line on multiple levels. First, this is the first step to forcing all energy use to be through the City's Community Choice Energy program. While I am "indifferent" to the CCE program, I am opposed to anyone being forced to use one type of energy over another. This would now become "Community Energy Control", so much for "choice"! Second, it has been purported by council members and City staff this this transition is "more affordable" and I can find no evidence or backing to support this claim, rather, all evidence (and common sense) points to HIGHER energy costs for residents. If I switched to all electric appliances, my energy costs would increase by $1,000 a year. This only makes living here more expensive. Third, charging an in-lieu fee to a developer sounds great, but these costs just get passed down to home buyers, and therefore makes housing more expensive. So in conclusion, I oppose Item 18 of tonight's agenda. These actions while marketed as "choice" in fact are control, make monthly costs higher and make housing costs higher.
