Dear ARC,
Thank you for helping our city move forward with important projects that help our community improve. I am the Vice
President of the board of directors of the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and I want to share my strong opinion in
support of the new theatre design as recently revised by our architect Bryce Engstrom.
I think the building he has designed with input from numerous stakeholders is a perfect blend of old materials and color
schemes re-imagined into a beautiful, modern design that speaks to our mission as a theatre. Dramas date back
thousands of years and many of the traditions of theatre remain to this day. Yet many of the most exciting works are
those that talk about modern issues and help us bring our community together in a way that is unique and powerful.
I think this new building will work perfectly in our cultural corridor with the Children's Museum that is directly across the
street. The Children's Museum has many modern features that make it inviting to their audience of children and
parents. I think you will find that our theatre building has a similar stylistic impact for our theatre-loving audiences..
I am excited that our downtown has the chance to add a theatre that will bring tens of thousands of people to our
thriving core. I own the Jamba store on Marsh street and every day I see neighboring businesses that have closed due to
the loss of sales to online options and due to the high rents that our city commands. I believe that this project will be a
boon to our community for our citizens and for visitors for many decades. Please do not delay this project one more day.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Olds
